ACSI District Spelling Bee took place February 1, 2008, in Albuquerque. Ten Christian schools from the Rocky Mountain Region participated. MVCS sent thirty students from grades 1-8 and won first place in the 3rd –7th grade Bees. We also had two 2nd place winners in grades 4 and 5, one 3rd place winner in grade 2, and five 4th place winners in grades 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8. Then, in the final Spell Off for the top two winners of the 5th – 8th grade Bees, we took first, second, and fourth places. Those three winners are eligible to go on to the ACSI Regional Bee in Tempe, AZ, February 23, 2008.
Math Olympics takes place in Mesa, AZ, March 14, 2008, for those students who were eligible from their participation in November’s Math by Mail. In the area of computation, we had 2 fourth graders, 2 fifth graders, and 1 sixth grader eligible. In the area of reasoning, we had 2 third graders, 1 fifth grader, 3 sixth graders, and 1 seventh grader eligible.
Each year students at Mesilla Valley Christian Schools score above the National Average at every grade. Students take the Stanford Achievement Tests in April of each year. The SAT Tenth Edition includes vocabulary, reading, word study skills, math, spelling, language (English), listening, social studies, science, using information, and Bible assessment. In the kindergarten, students are tested on sounds and letters, sentence reading, and mathematics. |
