Welcome to MVCS
MVCS stands for Mesilla Valley Christian Schools, which stands for academic excellence. We are a co-educational, college preparatory, Christian school, serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade from the Mesilla Valley area and beyond. The heart of our mission is to equip children of Christian parents to serve God in His world, thus leading them to lives of discipleship in Christ. |
Mesilla Valley Christian Schools
was established in 1974 as a parent-governed, independent, nondenominational K-12 Christian school to serve the educational needs of young people in the beautiful Mesilla Valley of southwestern New Mexico.
Incorporated by the state in 1984, MVCS was formerly called College Heights Christian School (1974-84) because of our close affiliation with a local Christian preschool-kindergarten called College Heights Kindergarten. (Both schools were founded by the same family. The kindergarten in 1954 as one of the first Christian schools in southern New Mexico.) Our first graduating class (of one student) was in 1985, and today we have grown to a K-12 student body of almost 500 students. |
Accreditation
In 1988 MVCS became one of the first high school programs in the Southwest to be accredited by the Association Of Christian Schools International, ( ACSI), the largest K-12 Christian School organization in the world. (Our entire K-12 program was also accredited at the same time in 1988.) Since this time our school has gone on to earn the accreditation approval of two other K-12 accrediting agencies, the State of New Mexico and the North Central Association on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA).
In order for a school to become accredited it must be willing to open itself up to the inspection and scrutiny of other professional educators who visit our campus for an extended period of time to conduct a thorough evaluation of every aspect of the school including curriculum, finances, personnel, facilities, instructional leadership, long range planning, and safety management among others. The school must be able to demonstrate that it either meets or exceeds each standard required in order to gain accreditation.
Not only has MVCS been able to successfully meet or exceed each standard, but we have done so in such a manner that we have received the maximum accreditation term possible from each of these three professional agencies upon every visit. Accreditation then becomes a professional "seal of approval" as well as a sitebased vehicle for professional development and school improvement which will help MVCS become an even better school in the years to come.
